Sullivan’s Island beaches are perfect for those who are looking for something more secluded, but who also want a plethora of dining options for some post beach fun. Locals tip: check the tide charts before you head out to Sullivan’s so that you can enjoy the beach and sandbars at low tide.
A little bit more crowded than Sullivan’s Island, Isle of Palms is the spot to go if you have kids. Get there early to secure parking and enjoy the day in the sun. After playing in the ocean, make sure to stop by Banana Cabana on Ocean Blvd. for the biggest plate of nachos around.
The Washout, an unmarked spot on Folly Beach is the place to go to watch surfers and catch a glimpse of the Morris Island Lighthouse. If you’re craving some live music after your time at the beach, head over to Chico Feo for some tunes + tacos or St. James Gate, an Irish tavern featuring a classic rock hits coverist named Porkchop.
For a more low-key day, make the drive out to Beachwalker Park on Kiawah Island. This beach is big, beautiful and looks untouched – it is well worth the drive for a relaxing day in the sand. Make sure to grab some fresh peaches for a snack at Rosebank Farms on Johns Island and stop by the nearly 500-year-old Angel Oak Tree on your way out.
