Sounds of the City: Asheville’s Best Music Venues

Asheville’s Best Music Venues

Like the architecture surrounding us or the mountains that make up our skyline, Asheville’s music scene is an important part of what makes our city so captivating. Music legends like Bob Dylan and the Black Keys have come here to be inspired by the region’s free-spirited aura and natural beauty, gracing the stage at venues new and old. As a community-minded hotel, there’s no better way to experience the sounds of the city than to go out there and listen for yourself. Here are our picks for Asheville’s best music venues.

The Orange Peel
Voted one of the “Top Five Rock Clubs in the Country,” according to Rolling Stone magazine, The Orange Peel was once a famous black soul and RnB club back in the ’60s, hosting household names like the Commodores and the Bar-Kays. In 2002, it underwent a revitalization as a world-class music hall with two bars and a basement cocktail lounge with a live stream from the stage. The best part? With a capacity of just over 1000 people, you’ll always feel like you’re up close and personal with the band. See their latest lineup of performances at theorangepeel.net.

Rabbit Rabbit
With a name so nice, you say it twice, Rabbit Rabbit is a fun, new collaboration between Asheville Brewing Company and Orange Peel Entertainment. Just a 5-minute walk from The Restoration Asheville, this spacious outdoor venue hosts a variety of different events including Silent Discos, pop-up markets, and of course, concerts. It’s the perfect place to grab a brew and a meal while watching such legendary acts as Willie Nelson! See their latest lineup of performances at rabbitrabbitavl.com.

Grey Eagle
Want to see up-and-coming indie bands before they make it mainstream? Grey Eagle is the place. This former warehouse-turned-venue has been a pivotal force in the development of Asheville’s underground music scene, One of the longest-standing venues in Asheville, they’ve hosted early shows for such acts as the War On Drugs, Dr. Dog, and Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings during their formative years. Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville/The Thomas Wolfe Auditorium
Opened in 1974, the oldest venue in Asheville is home to two venues in one!
For larger arena-style performances, Harrah’s Cherokee Center boasts a capacity for over 7,000, while the more intimate Thomas Wolfe Auditorium has room for around 2,500. Historically, both venues have played host to renowned music and comedy acts like Elton John, Jerry Seinfeld, Phish, and The National.
